There are five science fiction themed conventions this weekend, ranging from local SFF events to steampunk cons to a Transformers fest.

Jewel Staite, known best to fans as “Kaylee” on Firefly, will be one of two Celebrity Guests this October at Vulcan Events’ con in Florida.

Gallifrey One, the annual Doctor Who convention for North America, has announced an open call for ideas for their 2012 event.

This August there are quite a few local sci-fi/fantasy (SFF) conventions. So if you’d like to celebrate some speculative fiction one last time before the end of summer here are the events waiting for you.

Contagion: Outbreak! is a new pop culture convention that took place in Omaha from June 10 – 12. Contagion: Outbreak! was held at the beautiful Qwest Center in downtown Omaha. It did not fill the entire convention center (in fact, there was a gem and jewelry show just next door), but convention staff made excellent use of the space they had.
