Press Release: WonderCon Announces Dates for 2011
Successful Event Will Return To San Francisco In April of 2011
Comic-Con International (Comic-Con), the parent company of WonderCon, which enjoyed a successful run this past weekend in San Francisco, has announced dates for the 2011 show.
WonderCon 2011 will be held at the Moscone Center from Friday through Sunday, April 1-3, 2011.
“To say we’re excited would be an understatement,” commented Comic-Con and WonderCon’s Director of Marketing and Public Relations David Glanzer. “In the past the earliest we could secure dates was typically 6 months out. This time we have a full year to plan, notify exhibitors and attendees alike. We’re extremely excited.”
In recent years WonderCon has grown from a highly successful regional show to the first large national show of the comics convention season. While attendance figures are still being tabulated, last year’s attendance reached an all-time high of 34,000, and by all accounts the numbers for 2010 met or exceeded those for 2009.
Next year WonderCon will celebrate its 25th anniversary. Because the event is produced by the same organization that produces the mega-popular Comic-Con in San Diego, WonderCon benefits from the group’s 40-plus years of history and know-how in operating the most successful convention of its kind.
WonderCon 2010 featured major creators from the world of comics, including Geoff Johns, Jim Lee, Dan DiDio, Darwyn Cooke, Greg Rucka, and Joe and Adam Kubert, as well as such Hollywood celebrities as Jake Gyllenhaal, Nicolas Cage, Mila Jovovich, Chris Evans, Kevin Smith, and Christopher Nolan, plus cast members from such hit TV series as Chuck and Human Target. WonderCon also enjoyed exclusive presentations by major comics publishers such as DC, Marvel, IDW, Dark Horse, Image, and Oni as well as presentations by such Hollywood studios as Disney, Warner Bros., Sony, and Lionsgate.
WonderCon and Comic-Con are nonprofit educational organizations dedicated to creating awareness of and appreciation for comics and related popular art forms, primarily through the presentation of conventions and events that celebrate the historic and ongoing contributions of comics to art and culture.
