ALSDEAD to Perform at Naka-Kon 2011

ALSDEAD, a “Visual Kei” metal band, will be performing at Naka-Kon 2011 as the musical guest of honor. Formerly known as Dice & Joker, the band incorporated the Japanese Visual Kei style in 2009 and officially changed its name to ALSDEAD. Thanks in large part to streaming radio, the band has gained popularity in Japan and the United States. It has also recently released its first full self-titled album. The band’s members include vocalist Maki, guitarist Shin, bassist Reito and drummer Setsua.

What, exactly, is “Visual Kei”? According to wiktionary, it is:

“A Japanese music movement which emerged in the 1980s, characterized by eccentric, flamboyant looks and sometimes an androgynous appearance.”

Naka-Kon is an anime convention is organized and operated by approximately 100 volunteer staff members, many of whom are students and most of whom live in the greater Kansas City area. Naka-Kon was first held in 2005 at the University of Kansas Memorial Union in Lawrence, Kan. In 2010, nearly 4,000 attendees gathered at the Hyatt Regency Crown Center in Kansas City, Mo. for a three-day, paid convention.

Naka-Kon 2011 will be held at the Hyatt Feb. 18 – 20. Traditional features include industry guests, panels, game shows, contests, showings, and vendor and video game rooms. For more information, visit http://naka-kon.com.
