I was just taking a look at our list of fan conventions for June ’11 to see what’s going on this weekend (June 24-26) and realized that almost half the events are here in the Southwest region; from TrekExpo in Oklahoma to CombatCon in Nevada.

I don’t think I’ve noticed this sort of concentration of events regionally before. Has anyone else?

What’s Going On in the Southwest This Weekend

Albuquerque Comic Expo (ACE)

ApolloCon

• When: June 24-26, 2011
• Where: Houston, Texas
• What: Science fiction, fantasy, and horror conference.

CombatCon

• When: June 24-26, 2011
• Where: Las Vegas, Nevada
• What: Hybrid multi-genre fan con and western martial arts workshop with programming in sci-fi, fantasy, steampunk, pirate, and horror genres, as well as some of the finest western martial arts instructors in the world; swing a sword, meet a Jedi, show off your latest cosplay finery.

Texas Comicon

• When: June 24-26, 2011
• Where: San Antonio, Texas
• What: Texas’ premier pop culture event.

Trek Expo

• When: June 24-26, 2011
• Where: Tulsa, Oklahoma
• What: The southwest’s premier sci-fi event.
