Press Release: Japanese Musical Guest Yousei Teikoku and Fashion Designer IBI to Appear at Anime Boston 2013
Both genre-bending guests to make a splash in Beantown
Boston – Anime Boston, the largest anime convention in the Northeast, announced another round of guests today. Musical guest Yousei Teikoku and fashion designer IBI will be attending Anime Boston at the Hynes Convention Center, Boston, Mass. on May 24 through May 26, 2013.
Beginning in 1997, Her Highness Yui descended on the human realm from The Empire of the Fairies and began making music with the intention of “regaining the forgotten hearts of those who believe in fairies”. Debuting with Japanese anime music label Lantis, the group has since created many songs for anime and video games.
With a concept combining Gothic Lolita visuals, and a mix of genres such as classical and J-pop based in heavy metal, Yousei Teikoku stands out prominently in the anime music scene.
Representative songs include “Baptize”, opening theme to the TV anime “Seikon no Qwaser”, and “Kuusou Mesorogiwi/ Fantastic Mythology”, opening theme to the TV anime “Mirai Nikki”, among countless others.
Japanese designer Naoto Hirooka’s gothic and lolita fashion line h. NAOTO has accumulated positive reviews and praise from both Japanese and Western markets. After receiving positive stimulation from collaborations with charismatic visual-kei artists, h.NAOTO starts the “h.ism” project in the mid 2000′s based on the theme of fashion and music co-existing in one entity.
In 2007, the success of h.ism leads to collaboration with the young fashion design duo IBI and MINT. Sixh. is born.
Started by IBI, the fashion line Sixh. unites visual-kei artistry with the imagery of popular host and hostess clubs. A new theme, ghost-kei, is created by combining the words “gothic” and “host” into “ghost”. Without a doubt, Sixh.’s cool, carefree ideas are not restricted by ordinary rules of fashion or society.
In 2012, Designer IBI has designed Visual girls band “existtrace” stage outfit. IBI also collaborated on a manga with them.
h. NAOTO’s fashion line and Sixh. is constantly adapting and merging with ever-evolving Japanese counterculture. At heart, Sixh. is the sixth sense beyond the five senses.
Previously announced guests were Chris Ayres, Greg Ayres, Lauren Landa, Cherami Leigh, Tomohiko Ito, Shinichiro Kashiwada, Yasuhiro Koshi, David Matranga, ORIGA, Bryce Papenbrook, Raj Ramayya, Stephanie Sheh, Tom Wayland, Kari Wahlgren and Shinichi Watanabe (aka Nabeshin).
