Michael Edward Miller:’Punch Out!’ Los Angeles
Opening reception: Monday June 10th, 2013 at 7:00 PM

Los Angeles based Opulen Studios is pleased to host the first international art exhibition by Vancouver-based Street/Pop Art sensation, Michael Edward Miller a.k.a. Mikey. The opening reception is set for Monday June 10th, 2013 at 7 P.M. and the exhibition will run until Thursday June 13th, 2013.

Coinciding with the massive E3 Expo in Los Angeles, the ‘Punch Out!’ exhibition will showcase 25 new 8-bit inspired works, all spray paint on panel rendered using precision stencil work.

‘Punch Out!’ is a continuation of Miller’s spray paint series from his previous show ‘The Nintendo Generation’; and focuses on all levels of iconography from the classic NES game “Mike Tyson’s Punch-Out!!”. Every iconic villain at the intimidating size of 7.5′ x 6′ and every portrait from the in-game storyline at 34.5” x 36”, from hero Little Mac, to boxing superstar Mike Tyson.

“For me, the 90s aren’t characterized by raves and grunge music,” says 24-year-old Miller. “My childhood memories of pop culture are rooted in the images of these games. ‘Punch-Out!!’ is such an iconic game and the pixelated boxers designed by Makoto Wada for the NES version truly represent the 8-bit era of gaming. The characters are intimidating, comical, colourful and it will really be a great pop art show that represents our generation on a new level.”

Opulen Studios is right around the corner from the Los Angeles Convention Centre where E3 is being held, so be sure to come by and see the artwork. We hope to see you at the show!
