PHOENIX, AZ JUNE 2nd 2010: Phoenix Comicon staff are finally able to announce the final attendance numbers from this past Memorial Day Weekend. Where only 10,000 had been expected to attend, nearly 14,000 showed up. After all the paper purchases, online purchases, vendors and staff were counted, 13,988 people attended Phoenix Comicon. Last year’s attendance was around half that at.
“It was amazing to see all the families,” said Joe Boudrie, Phoenix Comicon Programming Director and father, “We really did it this time!”
Attendees were able to see stars like Wil Wheaton, Felicia Day, Todd McFarlane, and, of course, Stan Lee. The creator of the Marvel Universe was a popular guest at this year’s convention, and one that the convention hopes will be returning for next year.
Convention Center Director Matt Solberg said, “We not only managed to attract four thousand more than we had originally expected, we kept them busy and happy. The show was an amazing success! ”
