It’s a Star Wars vs Star Trek Convention Weekend!
Two of science fiction’s biggest franchises are holding official conventions this weekend! Star Wars Celebration V, the official Star Wars convention hosted by ReedPOP, is happening in Florida. Meanwhile, Creation Entertainment is holding their Official East Coast Star Trek Convention in New Jersey.
Both have some impressive guest lists and activities planned. We’ve already provided some coverage on them both, which we’ve re-linked below, along with some new information and what you can expect from our reporting team in terms of coverage during and after.

Our Coverage: The Convention Fans Blog has two of our staffers in attendance, Jim and Susan. Jim will be there as a volunteer, so he’s getting a rather unique perspective of the convention. If he has time, he’ll be updating The Convention Fans Blog Twitter account. We’ll also be following the Twitter updates of other attendees, and retweeting the good, the funny, and the newsworthy. Photos will get posted to The Convention Fans Blog flickr account. We’ll have one, if not two, convention reports after it is over. Recent News/Updates: In terms of recent news about the convention, the organizers have put out additional information “The Big Event” (i.e., Lucas being interviewed by John Stewart). It is happening Saturday, August 14 on the Celebration Main Stage at 11:00 a.m. There is a wristband entry system being put into place. The Chapin Theater hosts the main stage, and it holds 2,600 people. There are several overflow rooms hosting a simulcast, and they can hold about 4,800 people. If you are not a Jedi Knight or Jedi Master VIP, you will need to line up to get a wristband for this event. The line starts at 6:00 a.m. Wristbands for the event will be passed out at the entrance to the Queue Hall. Wristbands will be given out first come, first served. Jedi Knight and Jedi Master VIPs do not need wristbands for entry to the main event.

Recent News/Updates: There’s not much to really report here. There haven’t been any guest cancellations or shake ups in the days leading up to the convention. Gold Weekend Package tickets will be available at the door, along with all over ticket levels. There also appear to be photos and autographs with Jeri Ryan still available (although organizers warn of an eventual sell-out).
