The Latest Updates about Dragon*Con: Parties, Pre-Reg, Star Wars Track, and More

26 August 2010 by

As Dragon*Con quickly approaches, updates, news, and schedules are flying around the interwebs like crazy. I’ve decided to try and wrangle all the most recent news into one place. This update will cover the release of the Star Wars Track programming, an update list of parties, charity information, new pre-registration times and details, etc.

Star Wars Programming Track: The unofficial but probably pretty finalized schedule for the Star Wars programming track is out. I say technically “unofficial” because nothing is truly finalized until you show up and get a copy of the print schedule and a Daily Dragon newsletter with changes. Some of the highlights include a New York Jedi Lightsaber Exhibition, the Q&As with the Star Wars guests, Droid Building 101, the Star Wars Costume Contest, and Star Wars Stole That! panel. The full list can be found here.

Pre-Registration Pick Up Changes: If you pre-registered for Dragon*Con, you can now get your badges as early as 10 a.m. on Thursday. Regular registration officially opens at 4 pm. Registration will again be held at the Sheraton hotel.

Charity Auction Update: A bunch of items have been added for the official charity auction. Paul McGillion, Dr. Carson Beckett from Stargate: Atlantis, will be the celebrity auctioneer. The new items include an autographed Twilight: Eclipse mini poster signed by stars Taylor Lautner, Robert Pattinson, and Kristen Stewart, two robes used on location in Italy during the St. Marcus Festival scene in Twilight: New Moon; and The Walking Dead graphic novel, signed by writer Robert Kirkman as well as the principal actors from the upcoming AMC series based on the comics. The Dragon*Con Charity Auction will be held on Sunday, (9/5) beginning at 10 am.m. in the Regency V Ballroom (Hyatt).

List of Dragon*Con 2010 Parties Updated: Ah the parties of Dragon*Con. So many to choose from! There’s the Stargate Multiverse Track Party and Charity Event, the Dragon*Con Gathering of Heroes (MMORPG Track Party), the Mighty Fine Shindig (Whedon Universe Track Party), The Grand Pirate and Time Travelers Ball (Alternate History Track Party), and more. For a complete list, check out this note from the Dragon*Con Facebook page.

Kevin Sorbo to Host Meet & Great and Screening: Actor Kevin Sorbo will be doing an exclusive meet and great and a film screening of his move, What If, during Dragon*Con. This event will be held on Saturday, with a time and location to be announced. More details can be found at CultureMob.com.

Settlers of Catan Championship Game: Settlers is definitely a popular game among The Convention Fans Blog staff and at Dragon*Con. The con will host a North American Settlers of Catan Championship Qualifier game. The first round play will be at the following times: Friday 6 p.m.; Saturday 10 a.m.; and Saturday 6 p.m. This event is located at the Hilton in the Galleria Level. It is $10 to enter. The winner of the tournament at Dragon*Con wins a trip to GenCon Indy to compete in the Worldwide Settlers of Catan Championship.

We’ll be posting more Dragon*Con updates as the convention gets closer. Stay tuned!
