San Diego Comic-Con Announces First Wave of Special Guests for 2011

Planning for the 42nd annual San Diego Comic-Con International is under way and already a number of special guests have signed on for the 2011 event, to be held July 21-24 at the San Diego Convention Center.

  • Jordi Bernet: Spanish comics artist known in the U.S. for the hardboiled Torpedo series and for DC’s Jonah Hex
  • Patricia Briggs: Author of the Mercy Thompson and Alpha and Omega urban fantasy series
  • Jo Chen: Award-winning cover artist for Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Runaways
  • Alan Davis: British writer/artist on such titles as Captain Britain, Excalibur and JLA: The Nail; currently artist on Avengers Prime
  • David Finch: Artist known for his work on covers for Cyberforce, Avengers, New Avengers, and Brightest Day; he’s now writing and drawing Batman: The Dark Knight
  • Dave Gibbons: British artist on the classic Watchmen comics series, and Give Me Liberty/Martha Washington; writer/artist of The Originals graphic novel.
  • Kim Harrison: Author of the Rachel Morgan and Madison Avery series.
  • Jonathan Hickman: Writer for Fantastic Four, Secret Warriors, and S.H.I.E.L.D.
  • John Higgins: Long-time British artist on 2000 AD titles; colorist on the classic Watchmen comics series
  • Charlie Huston: Crime/horror writer of the Hank Thompson and Joe Pitt Casebooks series; comic book writer for Wolverine: The Best There Is, and Moon Knight.
  • Jamal Igle: Artist for various comics publishers (Marvel, Image, Devils Due, Disney); latest work includes Supergirl
  • Richard Kyle: Writer for Graphic Story Magazine, a highly influential fanzine of the 1960s; coined the term “graphic novel” in 1964
  • Rebecca Moesta: Co-author (with Kevin J. Anderson) of Star Wars Young Jedi Knights and Crystal Doors series; writer for Buffy novels.
  • Christopher Moore: Author of humorous vampire novels; Bite Me, You Suck, Bloodsucking Fiends, etc.
  • Bill Schelly: Historian of comics fandom; books include The Golden Age of Comics Fandom, and biographies of Joe Kubert and others.
