Atlanta Steampunk Convention, AnachroCon, Happening this February
Steampunk conventions are getting more and more popular, which means one could soon be coming to a city near you! For those of you in the south east United States, there’s AnachroCon, an Atlanta, Georgia steampunk convention.
AnachroCon 2011 is taking place at the Holiday Inn Select Perimeter (the same hotel we’ll be at a week earlier for TrekTrax Atlanta, oddly enough), on February 25-27, 2011.
Guests include Thomas Willeford of Brute Force Studios, The Sci-Fi Janitors (a pair of Dragon*Con favorites), artist Mark Helwig, art directors Matt Silva and Erin Bushko, Steampunk Boba Fett (a.k.a. John Strangeway), and comedian Sabrina Pandora. There are also several musical acts, writers and historians attending, including Atlanta Radio Theatre Company, Carnival Epsilon, Dr. Q, Gypsy Nomads, STEAMFest Players, The Extraordinary Contraptions, G. D. Falksen, Emilie P. Bush, and many more.
AnachroCon offers several different tracks of programming: Culture, Fabrication, Fashion, Gaming, History, Media, and Science. You can expect panels on everything from “Gender and Race in Alternate History,” “Weapons of Historical War,” “Morality in Victorian Literature,” and much more. There will also be performances, parties, and plenty of opportunities to socialize and show off your costumes.
Tickets are $40 for the weekend if you pre-register, and $50 at the door. Visit www.anachrocon.com for more information and to buy tickets.
