Medieval Costumes & Gifts: Supporting Fandom and Charity

5 April 2011 by

You may have noticed that we’ve added a new advertiser here on The Convention Fans Blog: Medieval Costumes & Gifts (MCG). They are a vendor of medieval-themed costume armor and decor. MCG started their business at events and fairs, interacting with fans and learning what they really wanted from a costume vendor. They grew the business from those humble beginnings, and now offer an impressive array of quality costume pieces.

In addition to selling historically themed armor replicas, costume pieces, and decorations, they also make it a point to give back to their communities and have also started actively reaching out to support fandom groups. This desire to help out stems from the company’s small business sensibility. They still hold a strong connection with their community and love to give back to the people of their city.

The owner and manager of Medieval Costumes & Gifts not only encourages his staff to participate in non profits, but is an active volunteer for the SAY program (which helps young adults with family issues and helps them find jobs). Other events and charities the various employees of MCG volunteer for are Surf Rider and San Diego Comic-Con.

Medieval Costumes & Gifts has also started a program of outreach to various fan organizations. Primarily in the form of donating merchandise like helms for auctions and contests. In fact, The Convention Fans Blog will soon be holding a giveaway contest for a helmet courtesy of MCG. In addition to our own humble selves, our new friends at MCG have also recentlly donated a helm to the LARP Alliance for an upcoming fund raiser raffle.

When I was a member of The Camarilla LARP group (back when I lived in San Francisco) we regularly did Chapter volunteer at the local Food Bank. And I’ve also volunteered for local conventions, like Comic-Con and Gaslight Gathering. So I’m pleased that we’ve found an advertiser for The Convention Fans Blog who also values outreach and fan event support. Check them out, and maybe take the time to explore the volunteer possibilities available in your own communities.
