It’s happened to me, and it could happen to you: you’re at a convention and you’re accosted by some extremely friendly individuals in costume. Suddenly people are menacing you with foam-covered plumbing supplies, talking about vampire princes or what happens if you look Cthulhu in the eyes. (Hopefully not at the same time!) Don’t fear, dear conventioneer. These people are not rogue plumbers, blood-gurgling parasites or cultists: they’re Live-Action Role Players, or LARPers.

Can’t Stop The Serenity is a worldwide event that is held in order to raise money for the charity Equality Now and other local charities in the cities which have screenings. I recently got an e-mail from someone behind Can’t Stop The Serenity Des Moines, who asked me if I’d give a shout out to the event here on the blog. Given my love for Serenity/Firefly and good causes, I knew I had to write something about it.

I recently had the opportunity to acquire a Sumo brand Omni beanbag chair. I had been so impressed with their versatility and comfort at PAX East 2010, I knew that it would fit perfectly in my gaming living room. At PAX East 2010, there were numerous hallways of the convention center lined with several hundred of the Omni beanbag chairs, so that attendees could sprawl out and play their Nintendo DS, PSP, card games, or just catch a nap by a sunny window. Last weekend, everything I thought that I knew about pen and paper role-playing games got thrown out of a tenth story window and replaced with something fresh, new, and terribly overdue. This happened at the 7th Dimension Games store in Roslyn, Pennsylvania (USA). Machine Age Productions game developer David A.
