Costume-Con 29 Next Weekend

21 April 2011 by

Costume-Con

Costuming is one of the things all fan conventions have in common, from the local sci-fi fantasy event to international fests like Comic-Con. Cosplay is so cool, if only there were conventions just featuring costumes.

Oh wait, there are. And Costume-Con is one of the longest running costuming conventions in the country, celebrating its 29th year this April 29-May 2, 2011.

Costume-Con has its roots in both sci-fi/fantasy conventions and historic re-enactment events. They welcome ALL forms of costuming, though; everything from Victorian reproductions and fairy garb to cosplay and fursuits. Which has GOT to be a quite a sight.

This is one of those ‘traveling’ conventions that is hosted each year by a different city and organization. For 2011 the event will be in Hasbrouch Heights, New Jersey, at the Hilton Hasbrouck Heights/Meadowlands and Executive Meeting Center. That’s apparently a short jump from New York City so the theme for 2011 is Give My Regards to Broadway.

They have all sorts of contests, three masquerade events, workshops, and day trips.

This is one of your more expensive fan conventions with an at-the-door price of $100. But worth it for costumers and cosplayers eager to frolic and celebrate the costuming arts with their peers.
