Fieldcon: Otaku vs. Nature

Fieldcon is an annual camping con put on by the same people who do Anime Punch. The idea is to try and expand the concept of an anime convention by taking it outdoors. It is the first outdoor anime con. Other fandoms have had their own outdoor/camping cons, so now it is anime’s turn. It will be held July 1-3 of this year.

Knoxville Anime and Comic Con: Good Times, Good People, and Cloudy

Knoxville Anime and Comic Convention in Tennessee (guess the city yourself) was a pretty fun weekend for me. On Saturday there were over 600 people to come through the doors of this little show. I have to say I meet a bunch of friendly people at this con. Everyone was willing to open up and talk with you.

Heidi Wunder Brings Belly Dance to the Dallas-Fort Worth Convention Stage

Heidi Wunder is just as her name suggests…a wonder! She not only performs and teaches Tribal Belly Dance, but also lives the concepts that she teaches. She has a deep love of music, dance, nature, and of people. She brought all this and more to the stage on June 4th as the fictional “Delegate” from Persia in a supporting role in a “steampunk” Murder Mystery Play at a new Texas convention called the “Difference Engine” in Fort Worth, Texas.

Press Release: Atlanta-based Cosplay Designer Yaya Han Settles Her Copyright Infringement Lawsuit Against Happy Sun Enterprises

Travis Tunnell, of the law firm Anderson Dailey LLP, has assisted his client, cosplay designer Yaya Han, in settling a copyright infringement suit against In Bae Park and Happy Sun Enterprises. The parties entered into a Settlement Agreement, which resolved the 10-month long copyright infringement dispute that was pending in the Federal U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Georgia.

Wizard World Philly 2011 Convention Report

The convention was much more crowded than I recall it being last time I went 3 years ago. This is something I’ve noticed about conventions as a whole, and something Stacey (another contributor to this blog) and I mentioned on our coverage of the New York Comic Con. I chalk it up to Hollywood and the recent success of comic book movies. Finally, after all these years, it’s cool to be a geek. We’re geek chic now!
