Steamcon III This Weekend
This weekend, October 14-16, is Steamcon III. Their theme for 2011 is “20,000 Leagues Under the Sea”.
There are several Events scheduled for Steamcon 2011; Amphitrite Society Annual Tea, The Nautilus Concert, The Wayfarer’s Brunch, and The Airship Awards Banquet.
Their Author Guest of honor is K.W. Jeter, who is credited with coining the term “steampunk” in a letter to Locus magazine back in 1987. Jeter, along with Tim Powers and James Blaylock, is responsible for formalizing the genre that we now call steampunk. The Steamcon III Schedule itself looks pretty good. Lots of panels I’d like to go to, if only the budget had room this year for a trip up to Washington.
Steamcon II: 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea is October 14-16 of 2011. It will be held in Bellevue, Washington (near Seattle), at the Hyatt Regency Hotel. Online registration is currently closed, but tickets will be sold at the door.
