Florida Convention FX International Has Been Cancelled

21 September 2010 3 Comments by

Yep, it’s official. FX International, an Orlando convention that had Star Trek‘s Leonard Nimoy as a guest just last year, has been cancelled. The news broke today on the official website, with the following message:

Update 09-21-10:
Dear friends & FX fans,
Due to circumstances beyond my control FX 2010 has been cancelled.I am as disappointed as you are and I personally apologize for any inconvenience that this may cause you. If you purchased tickets for the show, they will be refunded. Exhibitors & creators, you will be refunded for your booth(s)/table(s). I have loved promoting FX and I have every intention of getting back in the saddle and hope to announce something else in the near future.
Thank you for all of your years of support.
FXMike

FX International had previously announced that they were back on for October 16 – 17, 2010 at the Gaylord Palms back in April of this year. In fact, CreatureCon, another Florida convention, actually moved the dates for their event out of deference to FX.

Fortunately, it does sound like those who pre-registered and purchased vendor space will be getting their money back. This is the second convention this month that has cancelled with only a few weeks to go before the event (the other was Whedon Fest in Canada).

As always, we’ll keep you updated if we hear more.

FX is one of the best shows around. I am not disappointed in the news for if it to be cancelled, I feel it would wear out it’s greatest phrase ” Coolest show on Earth”

FX will be perfect as one per year as Megacon . it should. So we fans can enjoy great guest stars and vendors without it being repeative like a GUn Show.. ( sorry only anaegy I could think of)

    So let’s make FX 2011 a hit.. I can’t wait.

To paraphrase in proper English, FX was one of, if not possibly THE best collectibles shows in Florida and if it is gone for good it will truly be missed. They have always had an interesting selection of merchandise and it’s obvious that great care goes into picking their guests so that they don’t get the same people year after year (take note Spooky Empire). I was really looking forward to meeting Ernest Borgnine and Leslie Neilson this year. I can’t imagine what happened to cause the show to be canceled just three weeks out but that doesn’t sound good for the future.

I paid the extra coin for the Leonard Nimoy Q&A at FX 2009, and never received the DVD of the event that was a promised part of the package.

I emailed the promoters about it and got no response.

If that’s any indication of how they do business, I wouldn’t count on there even being an FX 2011.

Not to mention the fact that the FX website is now gone.
