Leonard Nimoy Cancels Dragon*Con Appearance

17 August 2011 by

This summer marks Leonard Nimoy’s retirement from the fan convention circuit. His last three conventions were supposed to be Dragon*Con in Atlanta and two of Creation Entertainment’s Official Star Trek events.

On August 6, Nimoy’s fans were dealt a disappointment with the following post on the actor’s Twitter:

That’s right, Leonard Nimoy has had to cancel his appearance at the 2011 Dragon*Con. No Nimoy in Atlanta come September.

Why? The exact reason wasn’t specified in the Twitter. I haven’t found any info anywhere else. However, Leonard’s tweet does indicate that he’s okay, so the reason is apparently not related to his health.

Leonard Nimoy has been a regular and a fan favorite at Dragon*Con for MANY years and attendees were looking forward to a last romp with the Star Trek legend come labor day weekend. Alas, this cancellation means that 2010 was the actor’s last appearance at the con.

So, what does that mean to those Trek fans hoping to see Nimoy this summer before he settles down to herd hamsters in California (or whatever he plans to get up to)? Your last opportunity will be the Official Star Trek Convention event in Chicago, scheduled for September 30-October 2 of 2011. Nimoy will be doing his photography seminar Saturday evening, 7:30-9:00pm and will appear on stage Sunday.

“For all sad words of tongue and pen, The saddest are these, ‘It might have been’.”
