Every year we cry a little bit about not making it out to California for San Diego Comic-Con International (or SDCC for short). We’re a bunch of East Coast con-goers here at The Convention Fans Blog, and SDCC is happening July 22 – 25 at the San Diego Convention Center. Even though we won’t be attending SDCC 2010, we have looked over the schedule and created a list of “must see” events and panels that we would attend if we were there. Since that programming list so incredibly long, we’re breaking down these recommendations into specific days. So without further ado, here is The Convention Fans Blog List of Must See Thursday Programming at San Diego Comic-Con 2010.

I have a confession: I have never been to a science fiction convention before. For most of my life, I was a general and distant admirer of the genre. I appreciated all the different shows, books, comics, and movies, but I never really understood all the hoopla. But then I met my boyfriend, Joey. To say he likes Star Wars is a gross understatement. So when Kelly asked me if Joey and I would be interested in going to Shore Leave, we jumped at the chance.

Japanese girl rock band Puffy AmiYumi will be performing at the Far East To East Showcase (FETES) during New York Comic Con. The performance is happening Sunday, October 10, 2010, and the convention runs October 8-10, 2010 at the Jacob K. Javits Center in Manhattan. The band became famous in the US when Cartoon Network created an original cartoon staring them, Hi Hi Puffy AmiYumi, which ran for three seasons. It eventually became one of the most watched cartoons in the world, and has been broadcast in 110 different countries.

Hello loyal readers of The Convention Fans Blog! For the longest time, if you wanted to get blog updates via Twitter, you were following my personal Twitter account (@dreadpiraterose). When I started this site, it was small and Twitter wasn’t quite so popular, so it didn’t seem like a big deal. But seeing as how both have really grown, it’s time for me to separate out the blog stuff from the non-blog stuff.

Shore Leave 32, a fan-run science fiction convention near Baltimore, Maryland, is happening this weekend. The convention runs July 9-11, 2010 at the Marriott’s Hunt Valley Inn. We attended Shore Leave 31 last year and had a great time. Although Dan and I can’t attend Shore Leave 32 this year, we have a great guest blogger lined up to attend in our stead. You can expect her report early next week, along with some photos from the con.
